4 weeks introducing the members of the Trinity. It’s hard connecting with the God of the universe sometimes, isn’t it? Much like the English translation of His name, Yahweh, it can be pretty tricky establishing parameters or even defining who God is. Fortunately, God has made Himself known in more ways than one. At least three, in fact. And as we explore those three distinct Persons of God, we may just discover greater pathways to connection with Him.

Week 1 (Psalm 68:4-6 NIV)

Intro: What are the qualities that make for a good father? Since all of us who have dads have imperfect dads, that can be a bit of a complex question to answer.

Truth: But when David lays out a song of praise to God, He identifies God as Father—and a good one, at that. The perfect one, in fact. And for those of us trying to get a better hold on who Yahweh is, that’s a really significant piece of the puzzle.

The Point: God is the perfection of your earthly father.

Week 2 (Daniel 7:1-14 NIV)

Intro: It’s frustrating that people can’t seem to agree about much of anything, and even more so that some in Christian circles don’t agree on who Jesus is.

Truth: When Daniel had a vision from God about beasts and thrones, he was really experiencing insight into the Son of Man, coming to overpower sin and reign on the throne alongside God. Jesus made it crystal clear when He walked the earth that He saw Himself as the Son of Man, and then backed it up when He lived a perfect life and shed His blood to cover the sin of the world.

The Point: Jesus is the Son of God, and that’s good news.

Week 3 (Acts 2:1-4, 32-33 NIV)

Intro: If God is close, it’s pretty hard to tell where He is. Because when you look at the way things are in our world sometimes, it can seem pretty bleak.

Truth: The Israelites found themselves often searching for God throughout their history as well. For them, God usually manifested His presence in a holy place of some kind, but then after a time, He stopped showing up. The next time He showed up, He was human. And then the next time after that, He was Spirit. And not Spirit “ou.t there” somewhere. God’s Spirit chose to make His home within each and every believer.

The Point: God has never been closer than He is right now.

Week 4 (John 17:20-23 NIV)

Intro: Human beings seem to have a really difficult time achieving a healthy form of unity. It’s frustrating.

Truth: But when Jesus addressed His disciples the night before going to the cross, He highlighted through a prayer that He and the Father and the Spirit have perfect unity. They are different. Distinct. Separate. But one. How? We may never fully understand. But in gazing more fully on the Trinitarian nature of God, we’ll acquire a far healthier lens for navigating relationships and conflict and community. Because perfect diversity within unity isn’t just something God knows how to do. It’s who He is.

The Point: God’s unity provides unity for us.
