4 weeks helping students connect with God in new ways. Jesus said that eternal life is to know God more fully. That’s our goal here on earth. But sometimes that feels really abstract to do. So in this series, we’re touching on four ways outside of reading the Bible and praying that we can connect with God practically.

Week 1 (Psalm 33:2-5 ESV)

Intro: If you’re a believer, you are here to know God more. The problem is, that’s easier said than done. It feels tricky, difficult, even overwhelming to connect with God practically. Hopefully this series helps.

Truth: Music has, since ancient history, been an incredible form of expression by and for humanity. A psalmist shares how connecting with God through music flow from recognizing and appreciating his character. So when we take notice of God’s character on display in our lives, we’ll connect better with Him through music!

The Point: Let music move you toward your Maker.

Week 2 (Matthew 25:34-40 ESV)

Intro: For some of us, the reason we don’t expect to connect with God outside of church events or Bible reading is because we haven’t experienced the miraculous moments we witness from time to time in Scripture. It’d be easier if things worked like that, wouldn’t it? If we could experience God through something tangible?

Truth: But Jesus tells us we can! When we serve people in need, we serve Him. We dive straight to the heart of God when we model the kind of sacrificial service Jesus models for us in the gospel.

The Point: We connect with our Creator when we serve like our Savior.

Week 3 (Exodus 15:11, Acts 17:14, Psalm 8:3-4 ESV)

Intro: Life is pretty amazing, and we tend to take it for granted. It makes sense then, doesn’t it, that we have a hard time connecting with the Creator of life whose awe-inspiring creation we constantly take for granted.

Truth: But Moses, Paul, and David all connected really well with God. Moses took time to wonder in the highlight reel moments. Paul took time to wonder in the mundane provisions. David took time to wonder at the gift of life itself. And we have a chance to wonder every day at the gift of the gospel given us in Christ.

The Point: Let wonder draw you closer to the One.

Week 4 (Mark 2:4-12 ESV)

Intro: Connecting with God through community is hard because it involves other people. How can friendships draw us closer to God?

Truth: When Jesus saw the faith of a paralyzed man’s friends, He healed the man and forgave His sins. This man’s friends valued him, put him first, and pointed him to Jesus for healing, and it made all the difference in his life and the lives of everyone he encountered from that point on. We’ll connect with God so much better when we have friends like that.

The Point: Find friends who point you to the Father.
